The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) launched the formal switching on of the 80-kilowatt (kW) solar power project last Friday, 02 December 2016 at the rooftop of the PCA Building in Quezon City.

In collaboration with the Philippine National Oil Company -Renewables Corporation (PNOC RC), the inauguration was led by PCA Administrator Billy Andal, Mr. Alan Po Tanjuakio, Director of the PCA Governing Board and other PCA key officers, together with the OIC-President of PNOC-RC Engr. Pedro L. Lite, Jr., Office of the Secretary Representative of the Department of Energy Engr. Arwin Ardon and Atty. Gladys N. Nalda.

“We are thankful for this partnership between PCA and PNOC-RC as this step being undertaken signals the serious and aggressive shift towards renewable energy. This also, should have been done yesterday,” Administrator Andal highlighted during his welcome message.

“Through the solar rooftop installations in government buildings, we are fulfilling our mandate to promote renewable energy. We are putting our money where our mouth is: being part of government, this project is PCA’s and PNOC RC’s share in mitigating climate change,” PNOC-RC OIC-President Engr. Lite, on the other hand, bared.

The 80-kW solar rooftop facility would provide about 90,000kWh of clean energy annually, which translates to 80 tons of carbon dioxide avoided per year or about 2,200 trees planted.

“We look forward to the savings and reduction of electric consumption of our institution in the next 15 years and more, “Administrator Andal added.

He also assured of the continuous support to this step of mitigating climate change as he encouraged the expansion of the project to other structures of PCA. The inauguration of this solar PV facility PCA is the 4th completed project of PNOC-RC in government institutions. It was in 22 March 2016 when PCA and PNOC-RC signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on this project.
